Support teachers through HOT campaign

Make donations through December to the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation

Parents and West Linn community members are encouraged to honor teachers and educators in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District by making a donation to the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation. By making a HOT donation, the teacher or school employee will receive a certificate and letter stating a donation was made on their behalf.

“The campaign started as a special way to say thank you to teachers and school staff around the holidays,” said Kathryn Whittaker, president of the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation. “It was envisioned as a philanthropic alternative to the mug, Starbucks gift card, etc. that some families give to their teachers at this time of year.”

All donations are tax deductible and will be included in the foundation’s annual gift to the West Linn-Wilsonville School District in June 2013 for the express purpose of preserving teaching positions in the school district.

This is the third year the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation has hosted the fundraiser. Each year the campaign raises approximately $25,000, Whittaker said. Last year, 406 teachers and educators were honored.

HOT donations may be made in honor of teachers and staff from any of the 15 West Linn and Wilsonville schools, as well as administrators at the district office and personnel at CREST. Donations may be made in honor of classroom teachers, instructional assistants, music teachers, physical education teachers, principals, administrative assistants, counselors and more.

This year, the foundation received a special request to include world language teachers as eligible honorees, Whittaker said. A full list of eligible honorees by school can be found by clicking the “Donate Now” button on the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation’s website, wlwvfoundation.org.

“The campaign has been well received by the teachers and staff at all the West Linn and Wilsonville schools because they know that the funds donated through HOT will be given back to the schools to which they are so dedicated,” Whittaker said.

Donations can be made online or may be dropped off at each school office or by mailing the donation to the West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation, 1980 Willamette Falls Drive, #120-117, West Linn, OR 97068. For more information, visit wlwvfoundation.org.
