by: JOHN BREWINGTON - Scappoose's Ryan Bond would get a second-round pin against this Mark Morris wrestler Monday in St. Helens. Bond was second over the weekend at the Estacada Ranger Classic.“We wrestled well,” Scappoose Coach Jim Jones said. “Even though we had some guys that weren’t certified yet, we are ahead of where we were last year.”

Jones said when the Indians are at full strength, he expects even more improvement.

Some of the freshmen on the team—Kurt Mode, Braxton Sue, Cody Erhardt, are much further along than he thought they would be at this point. He was also impressed by the third-place finish of sophomore Ben Gadbois at Estacada.

The match was the first of the season for Scappoose. The team was at a tournament in St. Helens on Monday.

The squad is on the road to La Grande this Saturday for another tournament. St. Helens will be in Scappoose on Tuesday, Dec. 18 for a dual match.
