Team sluggish in third outing in three days
The St. Helens Lady Lions couldnt get their mojo working on Friday night, falling to The Dalles-Wahtonka, 40-22.
The Lady Lions had beat arch rival Scappoose the night before in an emotional 1-point win. They were in a jamboree, playing three quarters the night before that. The emotional win and three nights of play didnt bode well for the team.
We were just flat against The Dalles, St. Helens Coach Billy McKinney said. We didnt have an answer for the zone press. We sputtered and were just out of synch.
St. Helens could muster just one free throw in the first period, and seven points in the second period. Their defense slowed The Dalles and surprisingly they were down by only double digits at the half. They trailed 17-9. But it didnt get much better for St. Helens in the second half. They were outscored 23-13.
McKinney said the team had a good, but not physically demanding practice on Saturday, walking through some offense and defense.
Were going to get back after it, McKinney said. We can play terrific defense, and were working on getting the offense going.
The Lady Lions were at Hillsboro on Tuesday, playing early before the boys game. They host McMinnville this Friday night, and Tuesday, Dec. 11 head to Hood River Valley. They have the Benson Tournament Dec. 14-15.
