Donate to Shriners Hospital at Applebee’s

Lake Oswego’s Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar encourages customers to donate new, unwrapped gifts for the children in the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland. The donation drive is open now through Dec. 21.

These gifts will be delivered to many of the children who receive specialty pediatric care at Shriners Hospital for Children here in Portland.

Donate blood this holiday season

The American Red Cross needs your help to ensure that no patient need goes unmet this holiday season. Blood must be available before it’s needed to help save the lives of accident victims, cancer patients, premature babies and other people who need this lifesaving gift. A single blood donation can help save more than one person, but there are hundreds of people who need blood every day, even on holidays.

Call 1-800-733-20077 or go online at redcrossblood.org; sponsor code: LakeO to schedule a blood donation on Dec. 26 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 840 A Ave., Lake Oswego.

Volunteer with Clackamas County commissioners

Clackamas County commissioners seek five volunteers to serve on the county's community health council. Application deadline is Jan. 16. Representation is needed from patients served by Clackamas County Community Health's primary care or behavioral health clinics. Parents and guardians of patients are also eligible for membership.

The council and the board of county commissioners are responsible for oversight of a federally-funded grant that provides primary care, dental and behavioral health services to residents of the county. The council meets monthly from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Apply for arts and cultural tourism grant

Application deadline for The Oregon Arts Commission arts and cultural tourism grants is Jan. 31 by 5 p.m. The arts commission offers cultural tourism grants to support projects and partnerships that advance arts-based cultural tourism activity

Applicants must have federal tax-exempt status and corporate nonprofit status in the state of Oregon or be a unit of local government. Up to $10,000 in matching grant funds may be requested.

The grants are part of the Commission's Creative Oregon strategy to foster stronger links between the arts, culture, the tourism industry and local economic development. Grants can support activities undertaken by arts or tourism groups - and especially projects in which both collaborate to attract Oregonians and non-residents. Proposed projects may also enhance an existing cultural tourism project or fund a new initiative.
