Mykala Rubey commits to playing volleyball at OIT
Proud parents Sue (left) and Mark Rubey were on hand last week when their daughter Mykala signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Oregon Institute of Technology. Mykala played four years of varsity volleyball at Oregon City, earning first-team all-league honors this past season for her play at outside hitter and setter. A 4.0 student, Rubey plans a medical imaging major. Ask why she chose OIT, Mykala said, The team is amazing. The girls are the nicest Ive ever met. They seem to have a great environment for playing volleyball and learning, and the campus is beautiful. She also noted that OIT has the best program on the West Coast for her major. They have a 95-plus employment rate, she noted. OIT coach Jason Corwin said of Rubey: We like Mykalas range of ability.... She can hit multiple tempos, from the middle to the pins. She can play six rotations. She fits the academic profile we need to be successful in our rigorous classroom environment.... We really like her personality and the way she competes. She fits in great with our group of athletes and is a welcome addition to the team.
