Santa Cruz ends Boxers six-game win streak
Pacific women dealt their first loss this season in overtime
The Pacific womens basketball team had its season-opening six-game win streak snapped last Tuesday during a road trip to California, falling 50-47 in overtime against UC Santa Cruz.
The Boxers led 27-17 at halftime but watched as the host Banana Slugs whittled it down in the second half, eventually taking a 44-42 lead with just over a minute remaining. Pacific tied the game and forced overtime on Kaila Johnsons jumper with 14 seconds left.
In the extra period, UC Santa Cruz went ahead on a three-pointer by Taylor Willis, and Sarah Mackey iced the win with a pair of free throws. Mackey had a game-high 20 points and six blocked shots.
Pacific (7-1) was led by senior Heather Hitch, who had 14 points and seven rebounds. Alex Pfefferle added 13 points.
The California trip wasnt a total wash, however, as the Boxers posted victories over UC Merced and North Park (Ill.) in their other two games.
Pacific opened with a 63-44 win over UC Merced on Sunday, getting a season-high 11 points from Katie Sheldon. Paige Jensen added a double-double in only eight minutes of action, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Boxers followed Tuesdays loss to UC Santa Cruz with an impressive 60-43 victory over North Park.
