Service High pulls away in the second quarter for a 70-32 win over Barlow
The Barlow boys basketball team put up some early resistance, but couldnt hold back an explosive Service High squad out of Alaska during a 70-32 loss in Saturdays championship game at the Barlow Trail Classic.
The Bruins erased a 9-2 deficit out of the gate when Andrew Olson got loose underneath for a reverse layup, and teammate Duncan Otis drilled a deep 3-pointer to tie the score.
But Barlow would never pull in front.
Service responded with Adam Klie driving to the basket and sliding past a defender under the hoop for a layup. On the Cougars next possession, Ihro Raguinin took the ball inside and found contact for a three-point play and a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Service pulled away in the second quarter when Kylelle Brown stole the ball in the backcourt, took two dribbles to the rim and scored. The Cougars extended to a 30-13 lead when Klie leaped to save a ball under the basket, twisting his body in mid-air to find Marques Robinson for a layup.
Barlow was held scoreless until the final minute of the quarter when Kody Kennedy found Otis for an alley-oop layin.
The Cougars opened up a 20-point margin late in the third quarter to put the game out or reach. Robinson led Service with 13 points, while Klie added 12.
Barlow opened the tournament with a 70-47 win over Springfield and knocked off Aloha 38-29 in the semifinals.
