Section of Gresham-Fairview Trail closed

Part of the Gresham-Fairview Trail will be closed through Monday, Oct. 3, as crews with Williams-Northwest Gas Pipeline work on gas lines.

Electronic message signs were placed at trail access points at Division Street and at Powell Loop, with arrows directing pedestrians and bicyclists to the detour route around and through the Berry Ridge Apartments.

Human Solutions seeks artwork for new building

Human Solutions is extending the deadline for East County and Portland-area artists to submit artwork for the furnishing of its new Multi-Service Center at 124 N.E. 181st Ave. in Gresham.

The theme for the artwork is 'People Joining Together to Create Community.' The new deadline for art submissions is Oct. 21. Full details about how to submit art for consideration are available on the News Page at

The public is invited to the Tuesday, Oct. 4, grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. Light lunch refreshments and tours of the building will be provided. Most artwork will not be installed at the time of the grand opening, so a special celebration for the unveiling of the selected artwork is planned for late November.

Firefighters receive emergency kits

Gresham Fire and Emergency Services received a donation of 300 emergency kits Tuesday, Sept. 20, that will give firefighters quick access to residents' medical information during an emergency call.

Donated by the Gresham Fred Meyer pharmacy, the Info 4 Life Frame kits contains a form that, when completed, will list medications, allergies, medical history and advance directives in addition to emergency contact and physician information. The form fits into a 4-by-6-inch plastic sleeve with a magnetic back that can be secured to the refrigerator door.

The kit comes with a sticker to be placed on the front door or window to alert emergency responders to look for the form on the refrigerator. Another smaller version of the information form is included that can be filled out and carried in the wallet.

The kits will be carried on all Gresham fire engines and distributed to residents who will benefit by having the completed information forms in their homes for firefighters.
