HILLSDALE - The Wilson Area Arts Council held its annual Chalk Art Festival Sept. 11 outside Rieke Elementary School.

Organizers provided sidewalk chalk and allowed participants to let loose and create a collage of images using a rainbow of colors and themes. The festival saw the return of veteran sidewalk chalk artists as well as many fresh-faced newcomers ready to stretch their creative muscles.

With live music and refreshments, the event attracted friends, neighbors and visitors to the Hillsdale Farmers' Market.

The event benefited WAAC and its efforts to support the visual, musical and dramatic arts at the nine schools in the Wilson High School cluster. It will hold a fundraising pop-up purse sale in November as its next event.
