City restricts trucks on Johnson Road and Willamette Falls Drive

Ban aims to keep commercial truck traffic off neighborhood streets

The West Linn City Council voted to restrict through trucks on sections of Johnson Road and Willamette Falls Drive at its Sept. 26 meeting.

Clackamas County has 'No through trucks' signs on Borland and Johnson roads and requested that the city continue the restriction as trucks pass through West Linn.

'I feel it is in the best interest of the trucking industry, the city of West Linn as well as Clackamas County, to prohibit commercial vehicles from using all of Borland Road and Johnson Road,' wrote Kevin Peterson, county motor carrier enforcement supervisor, in a letter to the city.

The section of Johnson Road between Blankenship and Woodbine roads, and the section of Willamette Falls Drive between Fields Bridge and Highway 43 will now be restricted.

According to the city, the restriction will keep through trucks on roads designed for their weight and frequency and reduce congestion and damage to the city streets.

The city will have to post signs along the route.

Commercial truck traffic for local deliveries will still be allowed.
