Sandy netters miss chance for win
VOLLEYBALL- Pioneers lose lead and match at Century tournament
HILLSBORO - With a new coach and a determination to rid the Sandy volleyball program of its unflattering reputation, 2011 has an invigorating feel to it.
The Pioneers are starting from scratch, as young, newcomers are trying to develop under the tutorage of head coach Chris Meyers. They showed signs of being competitive at last weekend's Century tournament, but were unable to walk away with a win.
Tied at a game apiece with the Benson Techsters, the Pioneers dropped a tightly contested third game to lose their first match of the day. In their second match against Milwaukie, the Pioneers seemed to be pushing the match to a third game before the Mustangs rallied off eight straight points to cut a nine-point deficit down to one.
