Lights Parade this Saturday

"Christmas in America" is this year's theme
With the fitting patriotic theme of "Christmas in America," the glittering Christmas Lights Parade will roll down mainstreet Madras at 6 p.m., Dec. 1.
Just prior to the parade, everyone is invited to participate in Christmas caroling at Sunshine Corner at Fifth and E streets, during a ceremony to light the town Christmas tree.
Groups and individuals are invited to enter lighted floats in the parade, and parade lineup will start at 5 p.m., on E Street. The parade will proceed down Fifth Street. Organizers are asking that entries do not use a live Santa Clause, since the chamber of commerce has arranged for him to make a special appearance during the parade.
Following the parade, hot chocolate will be available, compliments of Great Earth Natural Foods, and kids can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus for a small fee at Hatfield's Department Store from 5 to 8 p.m. Candy canes will be given out and lighted necklaces will be on sale at the event.
The Soroptomists will be selling poinsettias and wreaths for those interested. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the sights and sounds of a Christmas in America.
To enter a float, pick up an application at the Madras Chamber of Commerce. The deadline is 3 p.m., Nov. 30 for entries wanting to be judged. Floats can also be entered the night of the parade, but will not be eligible for judging.
Awards will be presented for best: use of theme, use of lights, commercial float, and public service float. For more information call the chamber at 475-2350.
