Habitat store has unexpected opening

Van crashes through front of building

The Habitat ReStore at 4th and D streets in Madras was closed, but had an unexpected opening around 2:30 p.m., when a van crashed into the front display window.
According to Madras Police, the accident happened after Alejandro Mendoza of Culver, the driver of a 2000 Chevy Impala, ran a red light and struck the back tire of a van driven by Jocelyn Kelley of Madras.
The blowout of Kelley's tire caused her van to spin around and crash into the front window of the Habitat ReStore.
Kelley was taken to Mountain View Hospital with minor facial cuts and a knee injury, and a young woman and infant (names not available) who were passengers of the Impala were also checked at the hospital.
Mendoza was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. A damage estimate for replacing the store window is in the process of being done, and the building will also be checked for structural damage.
