>Fire Department cashes in
The Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 was the big winner of the Oregon Lottery Scratch-It for Charity scratch-off in Bend Friday.
Twenty teams of two had five minutes to scratch as many lottery tickets as possible, with the goal of getting the most acculative dollar amount in winning tickets. The local fire department's team -- consisting of Steve and Jill Kenfield -- finished first among 20 teams representing various non-profit agencies around Central Oregon.
The team scratched off $482 in winning tickets. As the big winner, the Oregon Lottery will provide the department with another 1,000 tickets at a later date.
Carman said the winnings will go into the department's equipment fund.
The event is sponsored by the Oregon Lottery.
