The year 2001 will be remembered for many things. I choose to remember it for its heroes. During the Sept. 11 tragedy, the courage of our rescue worker was a shining light in a sea of dust and horror. As 2001 barely became a memory, Jefferson County lost one of its heroes. Bob Ervin was one of the finest paramedics to ever ride in an ambulance. He died doing what he did best; helping others in crisis. I feel privileged to have known him, and know my life is richer for it. Bob, thanks for being my hero.
