Boy Scouts recruiting

More than camping
In February, Boy Scout Troop 58, sponsored by the Madras Elks, will hold a recruitment night for those interested in joining the Scouting program.
Scout Master Rick Krause and leader Tom Brown are enthusiastic about the troop, which Brown belonged to when he was a young man.
Besides all the fun outdoor activities, scouting offers a lot more, Krause noted. "It helps build character, integrity, and honesty. Scouts learn to work hard, talk to people, and get along with kids of different ages," he said.
The troop currently has 12 members, and plans to award five top-ranked Eagle Awards this season. "That's pretty good for a small troop," Krause commented.
Outings planned for this year include a snow camp in January, hike at Smith Rock in February, and in the summer a week-long summer camp and 50-mile backpacking trip.
