To the Editor:
In December, new legislative boundaries drawn by the Secretary of State and the Governor went into effect. As a result of this legislative reapportionment, I no longer live within the constitutionally required boundaries necessary to seek re-election to District 59.
Many citizens have asked me if I would move into the new district and continue to serve in the Oregon House of Representatives. While I am humbled to have been entrusted with such support and kindness, I do not believe this is in the best interest of District 59 or Jefferson County.
Oregon is a great state because we have a citizen legislature comprised of Oregonians representing the districts they have lived and worked in for many years. It is incumbent upon me to honor this principle.
Please know that I will continue to serve as your State Representative through the rest of this year. I hope you will feel comfortable contacting my office if we can be of assistance.
Representative Greg Smith
Assistant Majority Leader
