Medical supply shop opens
Feb. 20, 2002 -- Need a wheelchair, crutches or hospital bed? They are now available right in Madras at Ochoco Medical Supply, which opened Jan. 28, on Fifth Street.
Ochoco Medical Supply is a distributor of Norco supplies, and the store is staffed by respiratory therapist Pam Dean, and Madras Route Manager Jill Kenfield.
Dean makes weekly visits to Madras doctors offices to be sure patient equipment is fulfilling the doctor's orders, while Kenfield sets up equipment in patient's homes. Kenfield's route includes the communities of Madras, Culver, Metolius, Warm Springs, Simnasho, Shaniko, Fossil, Maupin, Ashwood, and Antelope. During visits, she attends to oxygen tank replacements, bed set ups or other needs.
The Norco Company has an office in Bend, but is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Medical supplies available include wheelchairs, walkers, canes, hospital beds, diabetic supplies, tub bars and hand rails for bathrooms, oxygen, and more. Doctors call orders into the Prineville office, which does insurance billing and informs Kenfield about the patient's needs so she can deliver the items. Eventually, the shop will also carry nurses uniforms and shoes.
Ochoco Medical Supply is open Monday through Friday, when Kenfield is not out visiting a patient, at 220 SE Fifth Street. She is on-call at 475-7037, or faxes can be sent to 475-7041.
