Sheriffs office employee arrested on misconduct charges
A 24-year veteran of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office was arrested Thursday on charges of official misconduct after a two-week investigation in connection with her job in the agency's concealed handgun licensing unit.
Lana Smith, 57, an office assistant, was charged with first- and second-degree official misconduct and computer crime. She was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
The sheriff's office has not released details of the investigation that began Sept. 15 involving alleged misuse of the county's computer system and improper processing of a concealed handgun license applicant.
Smith was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-September as the criminal investigation began. She has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after her arrest.
