MHC BOYS SOCCER - Bruins cling to early goal to survive Reynolds 1-0
The Barlow boys soccer team struck in a flash and survived the next 79 minutes to walk away with a 1-0 win Thursday afternoon.
The Bruins got the winning goal seconds after the opening kickoff when Andrew Stevens made a run down the sideline and looped a high crossing pass into the middle. A heavy wind grabbed the ball and re-charted its destination for the far post.
The lead held up into halftime where both teams switched strategy with Reynolds using the wind to ramp up its attack over the final 40 minutes.
'We didn't want to just sit on a 1-0 lead, but we were more defensive-minded in that second half,' Barlow coach Neal Bridgnell said. 'This was a crazy game, it could have gone either way, but our story all year has been finding a way to win.'
The Bruins would come out victorious, but it wouldn't come easily or without controversy....
