Neighbors keep blaze in check until firefighters arrive
- Portland Tribune - News
Two neighbors fought flames in a Southeast Portland house late Sunday night until Portland firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.
Portland Fire and Rescue said the two women used a garden hose and a fire extinguisher to contain the fire in the home's living room, limiting its damage.
One of the women had a minor injury in the incident. A man who lived at the house suffered smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were called at about 10:55 p.m. to the one-story house at 10225 S.E. Boise St. where they found the two women outside battling the fire from the front yard. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the blaze by about 11:06 p.m.
Investigators said the fire was probably caused by a lamp that had been knocked over and ignited living room curtains. Three people who lived in the house were staying with friends.
The value and loss to the home is still being determined.
