> A group of around 60 people gathered in Madras for a candlelight vigil for peace last Sunday.
The vigil, held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, was done in conjunction with Archbishop Desmond Tutu's call for a Global Candlelight Vigil that Sunday. Thousands of Oregonians participated across the state.
"It was a multi-denominational gathering. We had meditations and prayers in both English and Spanish and it was very nice," said local organizer Barbara Manning.
She said the event was not held as an anti-war protest, but as a vigil where people of various political views could come together to hope and meditate for peace.
