Davis performs at Bach festival
In state competition
Melissa Rae Davis of Culver and Adam Bratton of Bend recently represented Central Oregon with their musical talents.
Competition began with the Oregon Music Teacher's Association's Oregon Junior Bach Festival Feb. 8, at Central Oregon Community College in Bend. The festival was attended by 32 competitors, and of those, nine were chosen to go on to the Regional Recital competition Feb. 23. Only four from those nine were selected to represent the Central Oregon District at the state level.
Representing Central Oregon for a second year was Melissa Davis, daughter of Tammy Davis of Culver and granddaughter of Larry and Barbara Adkins, also of Culver.
Melissa performed a double concerto with her fellow student, Adam Bratton of Bend. They played the Concerto for Two Pianos in C Minor by J.S. Bach.
The is was also the second consecutive year for Adam to go to the state competition.
Twenty-eight students from Oregon represented their respective districts at the 19th Annual Oregon junior Bach Festival Final Event Recital in Salem on March 2.
Melissa, 18, is a senior this year through Christian Liberty Academy homeschool. She is the sister of Stephen Davis, who represented Central Oregon at the state honors recital in 2001 and 2002. Both Melissa and Adam are students of Peter Brownlee, piano instructor of Bend. They have also been invited to perform at the Cascade Festival of Music in Bend this August.
