> Central Oregon Boxing Club members Omar Villa, Matthew Alonso, Jovonny Medina and Justin Evans each posted wins in recent competitions.
Highlighting the victories by the club members who train in Culver were one each by Villa, Medina and Evans at the April 5 and 6 Pacific Inland Championships in Spokane, Wash.
Villa posted a 1-1 mark at 75 pounds while Medina had the same record in the 119 division. Another 1-1 mark was punched out by Evans at 132 pounds.
Central Oregon coach Mark Evans anticipates a chance to give the members of the club added experience at a show May 10, he reported.
Villa was joined by Alonso in representing Central Oregon at a March 29 show in Warm Springs. That night Villa lasted for his entire bout at 75 only to drop a split decision against a boxer out of Portland's Knott Street club. Villa's intensity, coupled with his opponent's earned their combat the title "Bout of the Night" in the Junior division from the judges at the event, Mark Evans noted.
Alonso slipped in blows that connected just a few times more often than those of Jefferson County Middle School cohort and Warm Springs boxer Johnny Smith to post a 135-pound win in the March 29 competition.
