Youth football sign ups continue
Registration for teams from Jefferson County continuing to take part in a tackle football league for fourth- through sixth-graders staged by the Bend Park and Recreation District is underway.
A group operating as Jefferson County Youth Football is accepting applications which can be picked up at the Pioneer office. Members of some of the inaugral teams from Jefferson County in the league are now playing for Madras High.
Jefferson County Youth Football's two teams consisted of a fourth- and fifth-grade team plus a sixth-grade team last fall. The Bucs (the teams' nickname) games take place in Bend.
Jefferson County is expected to be joined by Sisters and Prineville in fielding teams from outside Bend's district. The cost for the out-of-district residents, like those in Jefferson County, is $100 per player.
Warm Springs and Culver players are invited to join those from Madras in registering. They'll have to be quick though. There are a limited number of roster spots open. The Jefferson County teams each have space for less than two dozen. Each participant, whether boy or girl, must provide their own shoes. There is a weight limit for ball carriers in both divisions of the league.
Games are tentatively scheduled for September and October but coaches want to start practicing by mid-August.
