Hit, Pitch and Run happening Friday
The local version of Pepsi's national Pitch, Hit and Run baseball skills contest for boys and girls 7 to 14 is happening Friday, April 25, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Westside Elementary.
Featuring tests of throw accuracy, hitting consistency and running speed, the contest for boys and girls is broken down into age groups. Boys and girls compete only against their peers in increments of two years ranging from 7 and 8 to 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and 13 and 14. Competition for the girls is separate from that for the boys.
Registration is opening at 3 p.m. Friday for the free program. Participants do need a birth certificate or baptism certificate (or an approved copy of them) to verify their age. Those scoring the most points in their age groups at the test of hitting off a machine, throwing for accuracy in the pitch category and running the bases most swiftly, go to a sectional competition between May 15 and June 2. Call the Boys and Girls Club at 475-7028 for any more information.
