Students win at state history competition

Eleven Jefferson County students competed April 12 at the State Oregon History Day competition held at Willamette University.
   Competition was very fierce, with approximately 130 entries from all over Oregon at the event. The top three winners at state go on to the national competition.
   Qualifying for the National History Day competition in
   June are:
   Skyler Sensibaugh: Down By the Rivers: Water Rights 2nd place, JCMS 7th grader Junior Individual documentary category.
   Hannah Haugen: Abigal Scott Dunaway, 2nd place, JCMS 7th grader Junior Individual Performance category.
   Miriam Fisher Coming to America: The Russian Jewish Experience, 2nd place, JCMS 8th grader Junior Historical Paper category.
   Winning 3rd place but not going to Nationals are: Sandra Stovall Montgomery bus boycott; Luke Telfer and
   Cameron Scranton; Kaylee Dmytryk, William Wallace,
   MHS Senior Group exhibit category.
   Also competing at state were: Crystal Thomas, Keri Krenowicz, Kate Scheideman, Kenny Ocker.
