   ARTS COLUMN
   WATERCOLORIST LOVES NATURE
   Watercolorist Helen Knaupp will be featured during the month of May at Art Adventure Gallery in Madras. An opening reception will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 1, with refreshments and keyboard music by Don Henderson. The gallery is located at 185 SE 5th, Madras.    ART COMPETITION AT COLLAGE
   Entries for the 10th annual Collage of Culture Art Competition must be submitted by April 30, at Art Adventure Gallery in Madras. Entries will be judged May 10. Prizes are $100 for first place, $75 certificate for art supplies for second, and $50 certificate for third. Call Joyce Gottbreht at 475-9188 for more information.
   JCMS PRESENTS MELODRAMA
   Jefferson County Middle School students and staff will present the musical melodrama "Spook," written and directed by music teacher Jacqueline Koga, at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 1, at the middle school. Tickets are $1 per person.
   PROJECTS HIRING ARTISTS
   The Tower Theatre in Bend is seeking mural artists from Central Oregon to submit slides for consideration for interior wall murals. The project budget for artwork is $4,500. The deadline for submitting slides is May 19.
   The new Deshutes County Administration Building is also seeking artists to create three dimensional outdoor works or sculptures to complement the building and/or landscaping. The total project budget for artwork is $60,000 including installation. The deadline for submitting slides is June 5.
   MAGIC CIRCLE THEATRE SLATES PLAY
   COCC's Magic Circle Theatre will present "The Wind of a Thousand Tales," a musical play for the entire family, on May 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, and 17, at 7:30, and at 2:30 p.m., on May 4, 11, and 18, all in the Pinckney Center for the Arts on the Bend campus.
