Watercolorist uses nontraditional methods

> Watercolorist Helen Knaupp will be the featured artist during the month of May at Art Adventure Gallery in Madras.
An opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 1, at the gallery.
Knaupp has been working with watercolor for 20 years, using nontraditional methods and handmade watercolor paper.
"I like to scrub the surface, layer the paint and use white paint as well as metallic gouaches. I consider myself a colorist and I like to tell stories with my paintings," she said.
Her work is heavily influenced by childhood explorations of the natural world and many cultures. Her most recent paintings reflect her love of gardening and bird watching.
Knaupp holds a bachelor' of arts degree from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland. Her work has appeared in innumerable exhibits in Portland galleries, Astoria, Prague in the Czech Republic, Astoria, Willamette University, Condon, and Coos Bay.
