Man gets 13 years in sex abuse case
May 7, 2003 — A Madras man charged with committing 35 sex abuse related crimes against a preteen girl has accepted a negotiated settlement with state prosecutors.
Faron Baldwin, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of second-degree sodomy and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
In exchange for his guilty plea, the remaining 27 related charges were dropped.
Baldwin will spend the next 13 years and seven months in a state prison.
With bail set at $450,000, he spent 18 months in the Jefferson County Jail as his criminal case languished. At one point, he was sent to a state hospital for evaluations to determine whether he was fit to proceed in court.
Baldwin was arrested in October 2001. At the time, his victim told medical examiners and police Baldwin had been molesting her since June. According to court affidavits, Baldwin kept the girl from telling her guardian by threatening to harm her pets.
