Work will slow traffic through Warm Springs

   June 18, 2003 — An extensive highway project will be impacting traffic throughout the summer on the highway through Warm Springs.
   Beginning June 22, the Oregon Department of Transportation will oversee the replacement of the Shitike Creek Overflow Bridge on U.S. Hwy. 26 in Warm Springs.
   The existing structure has wooden timbers are deteriorating. The timbers, call stringers, are used to support upright posts. The bridge will completely removed and replaced with two six-foot culverts. The project, at a cost of $532,126, is scheduled for completion Aug. 31.
   A detour lane will be constructed at the site. The widening of the roadway will result in the creation of a left turn lane into Tenino Road. During construction, however, Tenino Road will be closed at the intersection with the highway. Tenino Road is expected to be closed from June 23 to July 11.
   During Pi-Ume-Sha Weekend -- July 27, 28 and 29 -- Tenino Road will remain open.
   Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through the work zone. Flaggers will control traffic at various times throughout the project.
