> Entries for the 2003 Todd Beamer Memorial Run on July 4 are still being accepted at both Mail Copies and More in Madras and the Cascade Sports store in Prineville.
Age-group competition in a 10-kilometer run, a 13.1-mile ride and tie event, plus a two-mile fun run and a 10K walk comprise the event.
Dedicated to former Madras High athlete Todd Beamer -- who was teaching and coaching at Neah-Kah-Nie High on the coast when he drowned in a North Unit irrigation ditch during a visit to Madras in June 1997 -- the event is the one fund raiser for the Todd Beamer Memorial Scholarship.
Former Madras High standout runner and present University of Notre Dame competitor Michael Manning is the defending champ in the 10-kilometer division.
The entry fee for runners and walkers will be $12 if they want a shirt as part of their fee or $5 if they only want to pay for the running, riding or walking.
Divisions in the different events will include 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 or older for the 10K run.
In the 10K walk participants will be asked to enter a 39 and under or 40 and over division.
For the ride and tie division there will be a men's, women's and co-ed division. Helmets will be required to take part in that race. The regulations for that race require that one bike be shared. As a result, when one person is riding the other is running. Times for both members will be added when they cross the finish but they don't have to be together.
This year's two-mile fun run part of the event will include the distribution of prize to winners in age groups of 0-5, 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, and "all other ages" plus in the "Me and my dog" division.
Questions about when to pick up registration forms or other details can be directed to Mail Copies and More at 475-5656, or Cascade Sports Center at 447-7970.
