Dragsters keep busy

While rained out May 25, a Sunday, recent action at the Madras Dragstrip was highly competitive. Many divisions featured close races on May 24. The rained out date was to have been specially geared to Pontiacs.
But Gary Ericksen of Portland made May 24 an enjoyable day for Pontiac lovers. He drove his 1971 Pontiac station wagon to a win in the Super Pro division.
Other division winners were Tom Stockero, in the Pro; Harold Jacobus, in the Sportsman; Matthew Rich of Crook County, in the High School group; Rick Robertson, in the combined motorcycle/snowmobile group; plus Jamie Ladd, in junior dragster.
Winning does not involve pure speed at the Madras strip as competitors must just come closer to running the event in the time they estimate to win.
