June 11, 2003 --
Earlier this spring, Sunriver Music Festival selected MHS senior Robert Prince as its Musical Artist of the Month.
Prince's music teacher, Michael Preston, nominated him based on his achievements as a saxophonist in both the Madras High School symphonic band and jazz band.
While Prince is accomplished in both areas of band performance, his unique musical strength is in jazz.
"Robert has natural talent and has turned into one of the best jazz players and improvisers that I have had in my 10 years (of teaching)," emphasized his teacher, Michael Preston.
In addition to his achievements as a musician at Madras High School, Prince was also selected to play in the Central Oregon Honor Band and at Music in May. When he is not participating in music, he is practicing and competing with the Madras High School Varsity Tennis Team. Prince also keeps up his grades and is a member of the National Honor Society.
In the fall, Prince plans to attend the University of Oregon and major in music.
