>   Madras High School Athletic Director Margaret Sturza returned from a vacation in June to discover that both her girls soccer and basketball coach had bolted for bigger pastures.
Michael Osborne, who coached this past year's soccer team to the state playoffs and the basketball squad to the state championship, heard about and accepted the Mountain View girls basketball job while Sturza was away.
Finding new coaches for the programs is near the top of Sturza To-Do list this summer.
With fall practices about a month away, getting the soccer position filled is a higher priority, at least for immediacy purposes, than landing a new basketball coach. Both positions are being advertised, will be for a couple weeks, and will remain open until filled.
Sturza said she has received notice from at least one person about interest in coaching soccer. So far no candidates have stepped forward for the basketball job.
While Osborne's departure put a crimp in summer basketball efforts, assistant coach Becky Dodson, plus some parents, have been a big help in getting the Buffalo hoopsters gym time, noted Sturza.
