>DOD removes 29.5 acres from provision
Congressman Greg Walden, R-OR, will visit Madras Monday, July 26, on the last leg of a swing through Central Oregon.
From 3 to 3:45 p.m., the Hood River Republican will speak at an event at the Jefferson Business Park on Cherry Lane north of Madras. The event celebrates the recent release of 29.5 acres at the Madras Industrial Site by the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Although specific sales are subject to approval by the FAA, the land can now be parceled for sale to businesses with industrial interests. Walden, Sen. Ron Wyden, Sen. Gordon Smith, Madras Mayor Rick Allen, and other local officials worked to secure the release in an effort to encourage economic development and growth in the region.
Earlier in the day, from 8 to 8:45 a.m., Walden will open the Sallie May "Paying for College" workshop in Hitchcock Auditorium at Central Oregon Community College in Bend. The workshop is a free seminar for high school students and parents.
Presenters will discuss the application and admission process for college, as well as higher education affordability, and how to find financial aid information for free.
Those attending the workshop will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for one of two $500 scholarships to be announced by Walden at the end of the event.
