Ranch views fire tax request
The Crooked River Ranch Rural Fire Protection District (CRR RFPD) will be holding an informational meeting "town" meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 22, at the CRRRFPD Fire Station, 6730 S.W. Shad Road, Terrebonne (CRR), OR, 97760.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Five-year Capital and Operations Local Option Tax Measure request that is being placed on the ballot in a special election in September.
The CRRRFPD has filed to hold a special election, Tuesday, Sept. 21, for the purpose of a Five-year Capital and Operations Local Option Tax (Levy) Measure.
The Notice of District Measure Election reads as follows:
Question: Shall Crooked River RFPD impose $.69 per $1,000 of assessed value for five years beginning 2004-05 for operational/capital needs? This measure may cause property taxes to increase more than 3 percent.
Summary: This measure may be passed only at an election with at least a 50 percent voter turnout. The district will use the tax revenue from this measure to pay for district operations and outstanding debt created due to the replacement of an ambulance and fire trucks when repairs were no longer feasible, and the purchase of property for a future fire station.
Current tax rate only provides for operations and is not sufficient for capital purchases. Approval will enable the district to continue its current level of emergency medical services (EMS) and fire protection.
The proposed rate will raise approximately $136,113 in 2004-05; $140,196 in 2005-06; $144,401 in 2006-07; $148,733 in 2007-08; and $153,194 in 2008-09.
This measure is not a request for a new building and will not buy or build a new building. It does, however, include the outstanding debt for purchasing the property (10 acres on the southeast corner of Shad and Quail roads) where the district hopes a new building will someday be built.
