Thurman Carlos Meadows

Thurman Carlos Meadows, a resident of Boring, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Gresham. He was 88.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland.
Thurman was born June 14, 1923, in Lego, W.Va., to Joseph and Clydia (McGrady) Meadows. He served in the military during World War II.
In 1990, he married Carolyn (Holt) Smith.
Thurman worked as a concrete finisher. He was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Maxine Taylor of Easton, Md., Kaye Meadows, Nancy Meadows of Kalama, Wash., Linda Azadi of Frederick, Md., and LaVerne Meadows of Henderson, Md.; stepchildren, Lori Thompson of Brightwood, Greg Smith of Boring and Rose Fleming of Rhododendron; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Edward John Tate Jr.

Edward John Tate Jr., a resident of Boring, died Wednesday, Sept. 28. He was 89.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Abundant Life Church in Damascus. Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Ed was born April 13, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., to Edward Sr. and Chrystal (Richardson) Tate. He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and enlisted in the Marines in 1942. He served in World War II and was discharged in 1945.
On April 6, 1946, he married Beverly Scott in Portland.
Ed worked as a truck driver. He boxed under the name Fancy Eddie Tate and was inducted into the Boxers Hall of Fame at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004 and by his daughter, Linda Shores.
Survivors include his daughter, Shellea Newberry of Portland; sons, Edward Tate III of Boring and Daniel Tate of Portland; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

John Roland Bartley
Feb. 20, 1935-Sept. 28, 2011
Former Sandy resident John Roland Bartley died Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was 76.
No service will be held.
John was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Onalaska, Wash., to Kenneth Bartley and Marian Spaller. John attended Welches Elementary School and Sandy High School, graduating in 1952. He enlisted in the Army in 1952 and then in the Navy in 1957. John was an electronics technician and obtained high-security clearance as a cryptic decoder. He was medically discharged in 1966.
In 1968, he married Linda Williams in Vancouver, Wash.
John moved to Phoenix in 1966 and had a 20-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; and his brother, Gary Bartley.
Survivors include his son, Ken Bartley of Phoenix; brothers, Jim Bartley of Troutdale and Dana Bartley of Portland; and two grandchildren.
Florence Bernice 'Bennie' Bohannan

Sandy resident Florence Bernice 'Bennie' Bohannan died Saturday, Oct. 1, at her home with her family by her side. She was 83.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Bennie was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Riverside, Calif., to James and Momoria (Brown) Hitt, the ninth of 12 children. Bennie was raised and educated in Riverside.
In December 1946, Bennie married Dean Hicks. They made their home in Downey, Calif., near her family. In 1965, they were divorced. Bennie remained in Downey where she finished raising her daughters and went to work at Weiser Lock.
On June 7, 1969, Bennie married William Gordon Bohannan in Mexico. They returned to Downey and she pursued her career at Weiser Lock. William preceded her in death In January 1983. Bennie moved to Oregon to be near her family in 2006.
Bennie loved playing slot machines, especially with her sister Bobbie. They spent time at local casinos and also in Las Vegas and Reno, Nev. She also enjoyed traveling, doing word find and fill-in puzzles and reading. She loved her family and spending time with them.
Her daughter, Durene, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her twin daughters, Dorothy Troutman and Donna DeBoor, both of Sandy; twin brothers, Wayne and Wilbur Hitt, both of Downey; sisters, Millie Liddiard and Jeannie Duncan of Huntington Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Richard 'Dick' Pullen
May 12, 1934-Sept. 30, 2011
Sandy resident Richard 'Dick' Pullen died Friday, Sept. 30, in Gresham. He was 77.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 7, at Sandy Funeral Home, 39551 Pleasant St. A gathering will follow at the Sandy Senior Center. Burial will be at Douglass Cemetery in Troutdale.
Dick was born May 12, 1934, in Gresham to Byron and Mable Pullen. Dick served in the Army in Germany during World War II. He returned to Oregon and resided in Sandy.
In November 1960, he married Joanne Moore.
Dick worked for Case Power and Equipment and later became parts manager.
His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Larry Pullen, Richard Pullen and Sherry Ten Eyck of Sandy; sisters, Janice McDermit and Connie Moore of Sandy; and eight grandchildren.
