Improve public transportation

To the Editor:

I am not able to attend the West Linn future planning meeting on Sept. 27. Here is what I would like: I would like to take public transportation seven days a week to the airport and/or downtown within an hour or less. Thank you!!

Thanks to scout troop 149

To the Editor:

Recently my husband, Don, and I had the pleasure of watching 10 of the 14- to 17-year-old members of West Linn Boy Scout Troop 149 in action.

We became familiar with the troop three years ago when it grew pumpkins on our property to sell for a fundraiser. During the many work parties, which included not only the boys but also parents, leader Erick Waller noticed our fence was in need of repairs and paint. A plan was put into motion, a date was set and we added 10 gallons of white paint and two gallons of lemonade, and at 7 a.m., the boys and their leader arrived ready for work. What a display of organization, leadership and the very best of our youth!

At a time when we hear and read of so many young people heading in the wrong direction, I want to say I feel there is great hope.

Don and I want to thank leader Erik Waller, the boy scouts of Troop 149 and certainly the parents who have made sure their sons get to events, meetings and even dig in at Don's Pumpkin Patch.

Yes vote on 3-377 is right thing to do

To the Editor:

The West Linn Police Department needs a new home. The present building is an unstable, unsafe work place. If disaster should strike, collapsing the building, there would most certainly be injury or loss of life.

We have an excellent police force. West Linn is a great place to live, due in large part to their protection. We owe them our support.

A yes vote on Measure 3-377 will enable construction of a new, safe building that will meet their needs. The suggestion that they make due with an existing empty building is going in the wrong direction that has no permanent solution.

If you have not yet decided on your vote, examine all the information and then vote your conscience. Get this measure passed. It's the right thing to do.

Vote in support of new police station

To the Editor:

I pull my car to the side to let the police zoom by, I hear sirens from my porch and I am grateful for the quiet presence of officers in the park at night. I want and depend on their help in responding to community need and in maintaining our safety.

It's logical then that I make sure their capacity is supported by safe and appropriate facilities. Please join me in voting yes for Measure 3-377 for a new West Linn police station.
