Deep Lady Bowmen squad runs to victory

SANDY - Using its strong depth, the Sherwood High School girls cross country team remained unbeaten in Northwest Oregon Conference meets.

The Lady Bowmen bested Sandy 26-32 and they scored a 20-41 win over Putnam to improve to 4-0 in NWOC dual meets.

Sherwood used its depth at the meet, which also included St. Helens, to come away with the victories.

Senior Victoria Kalina paced the Lady Bowmen, placing third, individually, in the 5,000-meter race in a time of 21 minutes, 26-32 and they scored a 20-41 win over Putnam to improve to 4-0 in NWOC dual meets.

Sherwood used its depth at the meet, which also included St. Hel-ens, to come away with the victories.

Senior Victoria Kalina paced the Lady Bowmen, placing third, individually, in the 5,000-meter race in a time of 21 minutes, 17.81 sec-onds.

Five other Lady Bowmen run-ners placed in the top 10. Sopho-more Avery Rosenbalm was fifth at 21:33.15, junior Devon Greene was sixth at 21:36.02, senior Cara Smurdon was eighth at 22:13.22, junior Kelsey Niebergall was ninth at 22:19.62 and senior Kylie Thal-hofer was 10th at 22:21.34.

The Sherwood boys posted a 27-29 win over Putnam and they fell 22-35 to Sandy. The split gives the Bowmen a 2-2 record in league dual meets.

Senior Peter Alley was Sherwood's top finisher at the meet. He placed ninth in a time of 18:03.06.

Also for the Bowmen, freshman Tristan Bishop was 14th at 18:21.72, senior Evan Heslop was 15th at 18:23.96, junior Connor Anderson was 22nd at 18:55.62, junior Cody Thompson was 26th at 19:09.65, sophomore Ryan Pierce was 28th at 19:11.50 and sophomore Colin Auerbach was 32nd at 19:28.62.

The Sherwood teams were scheduled to run at the Star City XClassic in Salem on Wednesday. Results from that meet weren't available when the Times went to press. The Bowmen squads will be back in action Wednesday when the run at a four-way league meet starting at 4 p.m. at Wilsonville Memorial Park.
