EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips dropped the Portland Winterhawks to .500 with a 4-2 victory at Comcast Arena Friday night
The Hawks (3-3-0-0, six points) fell behind 2-0 in the first period, with Everett scoring at the 5:00 mark and with four seconds left in the frame on a power play.
Defenseman Derrick Pouliot's power-play score midway through the second period cut the Portland deficit to 2-1, but Everett scored less than two minutes later.
The Hawks got within 3-2 at 16:30 of the second period, when Taylor Leier notched his first Western Hockey League goal.
Portland couldn't get a tying goal, however, and the Silvertips added an insurance goal at 7:19 of the third period.
Hawks goalie Mac Carruth stopped 27 shots.
Everett improved to 1-1-0-2 (four points) before the announced crowd of 4,324.
The Winterhawks have two more games this weekend. They will welcome Prince Albert (2-4-0-1, five points) to Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m. Saturday and then take on Tri-City (4-2-0-0, eight points) at 5 p.m. Sunday.
