FOOTBALL-Preview of Sandy vs. Milwaukie
by: Kris Anderson With running back Dustin Spencer out this Friday versus Milwaukie, Sandy wide receiver Nick Yungeberg could frequently see action.

The Sandy Pioneers suffered a 35-28 defeat to the Liberty Falcons, last Friday. The loss dropped the Pioneers (1-3) to sixth place in the Northwest Oregon Conference.

This was the third game that Sandy has lost by 10 points or less.

'Liberty was a game we could have won, but we didn't,' Pioneers' head coach Ray Baker said. 'You're not going to beat them unless you play better than we played, but I don't feel bad about some of the things we did.'

The Pioneers' focus heading into the match up was how to stop Falcons' standout running back Brett Bafaro. With the majority of their focus on Bafaro, holes in the Pioneers' defense were found and exploited.

'We were real focused on stopping (Bafaro),' Baker said. 'We were too focused on stopping him, and we let some other guys beat us and that will happen sometimes. We need to improve our discipline.'

With the loss, not only did the Pioneers lose ground in the conference, but also running back Dustin Spencer aggravated an ankle injury suffered against Rex Putnam. Sandy will be without Spencer this Friday when they face Milwaukie (0-4).
