Forest Grove appeared to have all the momentum heading into halftime of Friday's Pacific Conference football game against Newberg, but the second half bore very little resemblance to the first.
The Vikings led by 10 points at the break but gave it all back in the second half, watching as Newberg scored three unanswered touchdowns to complete a 28-17, come-from-behind victory.
Jake Bennett staked the Viks to an early cushion with his 20-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Forest Grove seized the momentum one minute before halftime on a 4-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jesse Zamora to wideout Chris Wertz, staking the Vikings to a 17-7 lead.
That was the end of Forest Grove's good fortune, however. Newberg took the lead near the end of the third quarter on an 8-yard pass from Andrew Reichenback to Justin Luft, and the Tigers iced it with Andrew Tautfest's 4-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds remaining.
