Washington man arrested in rape of girl near Forest Grove
Following a search, Washington County Sheriff's deputies found Jacob Bryant, 21, in a field near the home of the 14-year-old victim
An Everett, Wash., man was arrested Saturday after a Washington County father found the man in his daughter's bedroom after allegedly raping the girl.
Following a search, Washington County Sheriff's deputies found Jacob Bryant, 21, in a field near the home of the 14-year-old victim, who lived with her father on Highway 47 just north of Forest Grove. Bryant was arrested without incident.
Deputies responded to an unwanted person call at 4:51 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, the victim's father said he found a man in his daughter's bedroom who fled the scene upon being discovered.
An investigation revealed the suspect met the victim several months ago through an acquaintance and the two became friends on Facebook. They exchanged text messages and Facebook communications over the course of seven months, and the victim expressed an interest in having sex with the girl, said Sgt. Vance Stimler, spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Bryant recently traveled to the Washington County area to visit friends and took the opportunity to contact the victim, offering to visit her during the night. The suspect apparently entered the house through the victim's bedroom window and had sexual intercourse with her, Stimler said.
Bryant was transported to the Washington County Jail and cooperated with detectives.
He faces charges of third-degree rape, second-degree sex abuse and third-degree sodomy. He was lodged at the jail in lieu of a $20,000 bail bond.
