Madras area rancher dies in crash

Memorial service set at fairgrounds

   Longtime Madras area rancher Dale Killingsworth died and a Terrebonne woman was seriously injured Jan. 5, in a two vehicle crash on Highway 97 about seven miles south of Madras.
   Oregon State Police reports said at about 6:44 p.m., a 1991 Ford Taurus driven by Killingsworth, 51, from was northbound on U.S. Highway 97 near milepost 105 when it crossed the centerline and crashed into a southbound vehicle driven by Janice Wood (Sarah J. Wood in the report), age 68, from Terrebonne. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
   Killingsworth was pronounced dead at the scene, while Wood was transported to Mountain View Hospital in Madras for treatment of serious injuries. She was later transferred to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, and was listed in good condition on Monday, Jan. 10.
   Highway 97 was closed as a result of the crash and traffic was detoured for approximately five hours.
   The Oregon State Police, assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Oregon Department of Transportation, are investigating the crash.
   In Madras, a "Dale Killingsworth Memorial Fund" has been set up at Columbia River Bank to help the family with expenses. Donations can be made at any branch of that bank.
   A memorial service for Killingsworth has been scheduled for 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. (See related obituary on Page 3B).
