Apple truck crash injures driver

> A Washington man was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash Jan. 15, on U.S. Highway 97 north of Madras at milepost 74 after losing control of his semi-truck and trailer and going off the roadway before colliding with the embankment.
On Jan. 15, at approximately 4 p.m., Mariano Gonzalez Ramos, 24, from Mabton, Wash., was involved in the crash and then transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital in Madras. Ramos is being treated for serious injuries resulting from the crash.
The initial investigation indicates the Ramos was not wearing safety restraints and was ejected from the vehicle.
Icy roadways and speed may have played a factor in the collision.
The highway was closed for a period of time while Oregon Department of Transportation assisted in removing several boxes of apples spilled onto the roadway as a result of the crash.
The Oregon State Police Madras work site are continuing their investigation. Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
The lead investigator in the crash is Trooper John Russo.
