Martin lifts PSU with a hat trick
Oregon City graduate Megan Martin last week was honored as Big Sky Conference women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Martin, who plays forward for Portland State University, turned her first hat trick as a Viking in a 3-2 win over Sacramento State on Sept. 30.
And she continue tough last weekend, scoring both Viking goals in a 2-2 overtime draw with Montana.
Martin also scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Nevada on Sept. 2.
Martin, a junior, has a team-leading six goals on the 2011 season and eight in her PSU career. Twenty of her first 29 shots this season have been on-goal.
After starting in just one game last season, Martin has started every game for the Vikings (6-6-1, 2-0-1) this fall.
Seeing action both as a midfielder and forward, Martin played varsity soccer four years at Oregon City, earning Three Rivers League second-team all-star honors in both 2007 and 2008. She was voted Oregon City's best offensive player in 2008.
'She was one of our key players who provided leadership and direction for our team,' Oregon City coach Tina Boyd says. 'Megan always played with heart and left everything on the field.'
Her sophomore season at Oregon City the Pioneers advanced to the Class 6A state final, where they lost to Tualatin.
