Man shot at after breaking into federal officers Warren home
An off-duty federal officer thwarted an attempted invasion of his Warren home Sunday after firing his gun at the suspect who proceeded to run away.
The suspect remains at large, said Columbia County Sheriff Jeff Dickerson. It's unclear if he was wounded.
The officer is with the Federal Protective Service in Portland. He said he awoke around 11:36 p.m. on Oct. 9 to find the intruder breaking into his Millard Road home.
The case remains under investigation and is being treated as an officer-involved shooting.
The shooting comes weeks after Dickerson received some public pushback for saying that county residents worried about their safety in light of a dwindling Sheriff's Office budget could consider a shotgun as good home defense.
