Recall votes pour in

About 2,700 registered voters -- nearly 30 percent -- had returned their ballots in the Walt Ponsford recall election by Tuesday morning, according to Jefferson County Clerk Kathy Marston.
"If people haven't gotten their ballots at this point, I'd encourage them to call," she said. Ballots must be returned to the clerk's office at 66 S.E. D St., or any of the local drop boxes, including those at the Chamber of Commerce, Crooked River Ranch Administration Office, Culver City Hall or Metolius City Hall by 8 p.m. on Oct. 10.
The Measure 37 Committee, which is behind the recall, has so far spent about $20,000 on efforts to recall County Commission Chairman Ponsford and Commissioner Bill Bellamy. The Ponsford recall election is expected to cost the county between $6,500 and $7,500, Marston said.
