MHS play runs this weekend
Madras High School will present the musical comedy "Once Upon A Mattress" this week.
According to director Dennis Young, the play is a "fractured fairy tale version" of the Princess and the Pea. The Broadway production of this play starred Carol Burnett and made her a star.
"It's really a good family show. Kids are just going to love this," Young said.
Technical director Jennifer Cooper and helpers have been cutting out and sewing all the fairytale costumes themselves, while musical director George Klos is also doubling as a set builder.
"Once Upon A Mattress" will run Nov. 17, 18, and 19, with show times at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
Tickets are $7 per person and are available at the high school, at Madras Bowl, and the Madras Chamber of Commerce. They will also be sold at the door.
The cast includes:
Jonica Buck as Queen Aggravain, Drew Sullivan as King Sextimus, Will Wienert as Prince Dauntless, Catherine Buck as Princess Winnifred, Hali Adams as Lady Larken, Nick Hamilton as Sir Harry, Joseph Young as a minstrel, Kathaleen Green as a jester, Adam McCary as the wizard, Megan Brown, Jessica Pedersen and Melissa Metcalf as ladies in waiting, and Rodrigo Gaspar, Corey McGregor and Jorey Franklin as knights.
